Divya Mathur

It gives me the greatest pleasure to write in praise and support of Ms Divya Mathur. In a long career, of many phases, full of success, collaboration, culture and literature, Ms Mathur has repeatedly set herself more demanding challenges, and on each occasion, risen to them, overcoming the barriers she has faced.

Ms Mathur believes in making a difference to the world so that it may benefit generations to follow. She is a keen student of the Literature, a talented author, lyricist, poet and academic, she continues to work diligently for the good of society. In her career as the senior and respected officer of The Nehru Centre in London for about 25 years, she has touched the lives of thousands and inspired many to appreciate writing in all its forms and follow her into the study of this important linguistic, cultural and literary heritage.

Founder of Vatayan-UK, Ms Mathur has displayed her love not only for Hindi and English but also all Indian regional languages, Indian art and culture, she has taken it upon herself to drive this forward through her programming. Even during the most difficult times of the pandemic she brought people together virtually to celebrate authors, bringing together world leaders on the topics at hand, shared advice and experience from around the globe. These same events which were possible in person before covid-19 were opened to new audiences. To hold 135 weekly events, and without fail, during the pandemic once again proves her potential for which she was once honoured by the Arts Council of England.

That Ms Mathur is being recognised with this special edition of the prestigious magazine, Grihaswamini, for the excellent work she has done and continues to do, is a matter of pride for all of us and I for one am most delighted. The many awards she has so deservingly won is a testament to the importance of her own work, and the works she celebrates and makes more accessible to others. She truly deserves to be recognised and I wish her the best in life and her future endeavours, and look forward to reading more of her work, and joining many more of her events for many years to come.

Best wishes,

Virendra Sharma MP
